Warwickshire Ladies County Competitions
Congratulations on Thursday 23rd May Nuneaton hosted the first round of the MEL competition (Middle England League) between Warwickshire and Northamptonshire. In typically uncertain British summer weather it was cold and windy but thankfully dry.
6 rinks of triples ( normally rinks of 4 but Northants had dispensation to bring just triples) went onto the green which was looking really good and bowled well. Nuneaton President Tony Dawson formally handed over the green to Warwickshire for the afternoon. Both County flags were flying and Warwickshire ladies mascot Warwick Bear watched from the side. Umpire for the match was our own Alan George who was kept pretty busy all afternoon.
The match got off to a steady start with most rinks playing an even game. However Warwickshire pulled ahead strongly in the second half to finish 110 to 75. With 4 winning rinks Warwickshire carry 13 points into the next round. Northants 4 points.
Abi provided bar service and did a great job setting up trays of drinks ordered in advance. Sylvia Bedder and her team of helpers supported the whole day; set up and cleared away the green; provided a light tea of sandwiches, wraps, savoury bits and patisserie cakes and served up tea, coffee and a raffle. Thank you to Sylvia Bedder, Irene Hambridge, Andrea Balac, Pat Hallam,Jackie Skeggs, Sally Slevin, Denise Gale, Val Davin and Alison Boyd. Well done everyone.
